Easy Jam Recipe in 1, 2, 3!

Aloha friends!

Did you know there’s a super easy way to make homemade jam without all the fuss of canning? Yes, you read correctly! All you need are 3 ingredients and less than 30 minutes of your time.

  • 2 cups, fruit of choice (chopped; berries can remain whole)

  • 2 tbsp chia seeds

  • 1-2 tbsp honey or maple syrup to taste

Literally, those are the only ingredients you need. Cook the fruit over the stove for ~10 minutes on medium heat until the fruit has softened and becomes syrupy; mash with a spoon to get desired texture if you want less less fruit chunks. Take the fruit off the stove, and add in the chia seeds and sweetener of choice and let sit. The jam will thicken up after a few minutes and even more once placed in the fridge. The texture of the chia jam won’t be the same as homemade jam with pectin or store bought jam, but in my opinion, it’s good enough! Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks or the freezer for 3 months.

Now that you’ve made your fruit jam of choice, enjoy on toast or bagels, with peanut butter, swirled into yogurt or oatmeal, scones, and so on. The best part of this homemade jam is that it’s low in added sugar and has chia seeds, which are an excellent source of omega-3, as well as fibre (10 grams/2 tbsp), protein, and minerals (iron, calcium, magnesium and zinc). Enjoy!
